What perplexes Branded directors Jamie Bradshaw and Aleksandr Dulerayn is how films can so often feel like clones of earlier stories. “Like even a move as great as Inception,” Bradshaw says, “is basically the same as a Dennis Quaid movie from the ’80s called Dreamscape.” So their goal when writing this new sci-fi thriller, about a marketing genius named Misha (Ed Stoppard) intent on rousing a brainwashed population from their global-conspiracy-induced stupor, was to create something wholly fresh. “We wanted to make a film exciting and adventurous like Raiders of the Lost Arc or The Matrix,” he says. “A film that would be fun to watch on Friday night that still had something to do with the world we actually live in.”
Here’s an exclusive clip from the movie, which hits theaters Sept. 7.
