“I’ve got a monkey too,” teased CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler.

The executive took the stage at the Television Critics Association’s semi-annual press tour in Beverly Hills on Sunday to talk about the network’s fall shows. But it was her stuffed accessory that perked up reporters’ Twitter feeds.

Rival NBC has been heavily hyping its new fall comedy Animal Practice featuring the antics of Crystal the monkey. The show is even getting a preview lead-in from the Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony on Aug. 12.

“It’s been a TCA full of cell phone announcements from the stage, monkeys, Sarah Palin, re-negotiations — I couldn’t resist,” Tassler said, while noting her version was wearing Neil Patrick Harris’ Ducky tie from CBS’ How I Met Your Mother.

For NBC’s sake, we hope the network’s fall lineup succeeds, because it will take years for them to live down that darn monkey if it tanks. The industry still references former NBC chief Ben Silverman’s white tiger party guests. But white tigers are, at least, pretty cool in a VH1 Classics kind of way, and don’t wear diapers and throw their own poop.
