Answer: Yes. Yes, it is.

So, why is this up-and-coming hip-hop star using a prophylactic as an ersatz balloon on the cover of Dazed & Confused‘s September issue? Because Azealia Banks is “blowing up” — get it?! Her accompanying interview with the magazine isn’t available online, but a tease on D&C‘s website indicates that it’s as gripping as that cover photo:

“I really enjoyed interviewing her. She’s an extremely smart and driven person,” says [Karley] Sciortino, [the blogger who interviewed Banks]. “The intensity of her ambition is almost scary. You get the sense that there are no laws or limits to what she will do to get where she wants to be. She’s really funny, blunt, and flips her hair a lot — like the classic ‘bitch from a teen movie’ hair flip. It’s a good move. My interview with her inspired me to flip my hair more.”

Presumably, it also inspired Sciortino to start making more inflatable condom animals. Which critter do you think Banks plans to create with her contraceptive?
