Tony Award-nominee and Smash star Brian D’Arcy James will take on the lead role of Bick in the Public Theater’s upcoming production of Giant.

Originally a novel by Edna Ferber, the story follows a cattle rancher and his multi-generational rivalry with an oil tycoon. It was made into an Oscar-winning film in 1956 starring Rock Hudson, James Dean, and Elizabeth Taylor.

Joining D’Arcy James, who received Tony nominations for his work on Sweet Smell of Success and Shrek the Musical, are P.J. Griffith (American Idiot) as rival tycoon Jett, and Kate Baldwin (Finian’s Rainbow) as Bick’s new wife, Leslie.

Previews begin at the Public on Oct. 26; the show opens Nov. 13.
