Adam Rodriguez has crunched the numbers and will play a college math professor on Fox’s upcoming midseason comedy The Goodwin Games. In a recurring role, the former CSI: Miami star will guest-star as Ivan, a grade school friend of Chloe (Becki Newton) who becomes not only her professor but also a potential love interest. Carter Bays – who created The Goodwin Games with fellow How I Met Your Mother executive producers Craig Thomas and Chris Harris – describes Ivan via email as “a scrawny, insecure nebbish with crippling allergies,” adding: “Obviously Adam Rodriguez was the first person we thought of!” Rodriguez could appear in as many as four of the first 13 episodes.

The Goodwin Games – which centers on three siblings who stand to inherit millions if they can complete the crazy challenges in their deceased father’s will – also stars Scott Foley and T.J. Miller. It is slated to debut in early 2013.
