The producers of Syfy’s special effects makeup competition series Face Off  have created Hot Set, a new show that puts the spotlight on another behind-the-scenes craft: production design.

Each week, two on-the-rise designers are challenged to build an entire set from start to finish in just three days.

During the show’s premiere episode, which airs on Tuesday, Sept. 18, the first two contestants go head-to-head to create a foreign planet where an astronaut has crash landed. Armed only with a script that includes a few details about the story that will unfold on their finished sets, contestants Abra Brayman and Craig Pavilionis get down to work.

In this EW exclusive clip, host Ben Mankiewicz discusses the challenge with judges Curt Beech, Lilly Kilvert and Barry Robison — all award-winning production designers — while Brayman and Pavilionis begin to map out their designs. Check it out below.

The premiere of Hot Set airs on Syfy Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 9/8c.
