What do you do when your husband is sentenced to eight years in prison? In Middle of Nowhere — which won writer-director Ava DuVernay the Best Director award at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival — that’s the dilemma facing Ruby (Emayatzy Corinealdi), who drops out of medical school after her husband (Omari Hardwick, Kick-Ass) gets sent to a California slammer. Things get even more complicated for Ruby after a kind bus driver (David Oyelowo, Rise of the Planet of the Apes) begins to woo her — and she begins to let him.
