Here’s something you don’t see all the time: PopWatch covering sports.

But it seems like this year sports stuff had a bigger place in pop culture than normal, what with the London Olympics dominating late-summer television. Even non-Olympic events like Peyton Manning’s return or Tim Tebow taking on the Steelers had us glued to the edge of our seat – something we previously thought only happened during Homeland.

Sports Illustrated (our sister publication) is running their annual Facebook contest right now to determine who gets to be on the year-end fan-voted cover.  I don’t regularly follow football or baseball, so for me, the moment of the year would totally be Michael Phelps or Gabby Douglas. Both of them consistently delivered jaw-dropping moments during the London Games. Check out the full list of nominations after the jump:

1. “The Steelers Get Tebowed”

2. “Manningham is Super”

3. “Hamilton Goes Yard — Times Four”

4. “Gabby Strikes Gold”

5. “Phelps Caps a Storied Career”

6. “Murray Takes Center Stage”

7. “Bolt Races into History”

8. “Peyton Manning Returns”

9. “Europe Swings a Miracle”

10. “The Giants Reign in the Rain”

Head over to their Facebook page to rank the nominations and decide who gets your number one vote for Moment of the Year. Michael Phelps? Andy Murray? What was your sport moment of the year?
