Following a stellar franchise launch last year with a hit TV movie, the Disney Channel’s new series Sofia the First is set to debut next week with an episode about guess what: gender equality. In the premiere episode, “Just One of the Princes” (Friday, January 11 at 9:30 a.m., ET/PT), Sofia wants to become the first princess to earn a spot on her school’s flying derby team. Even though she’s paired with the overly-anxious horse Minimus (voiced by Ariel Winter’s “Modern Family” co-star Eric Stonestreet), Sofia learns to believe in herself and proves that a princess can do anything she sets her mind to.

In the video below the boys and girls of Enchancia give her the lay of the land when she shows up to try out.

November’s primetime movie Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess became the number one cable telecast of all time for kids 2-5 and girls 2-5. Click through for more images from upcoming episodes of ‘Sofia the First.’
