Eh… sorta. The consensus about last weekend’s SNL seems to be that while Jennifer Lawrence tried her very best, the show itself wasn’t quite up to snuff. Maybe it’s because the writers ran out of topical material early on, forcing them to resort to spoofs of ’70s-era foreign films and the Civil War. Maybe the month-long break between December’s Martin Short Christmas Spectacular and Saturday’s episode just wasn’t long enough.
But no matter: This poll is about the show’s host rather than the show itself — and by most rubrics, Jennifer Lawrence proved herself to be capable and game. Whether she was sneering about serving Bobby Moynihan toilet water or yipping excitedly as a lady-sized shih tzu competing on “Top Dog Chef,” the Oscar nominee committed to her material… even when that material was more cloud than silver lining.
But will her efforts be enough to make Lawrence a Best Host contender? As of our last poll, the actress may have to consider it an honor just to nab a nomination. Martin Short blew the competition away after his episode aired, earning nearly 70 percent of that poll’s final vote. The show’s most recent host is always at an advantage in these polls, but Short’s enormous victory proves that he’s now the host to beat.
Perennial favorite Seth MacFarlane held onto his second-place spot, but his 13.34 percent pales in comparison to Short’s domination. Anne Hathaway was a close third with 10.92 percent, and Jeremy Renner just barely held onto a spot in the top four with a measly 4.68 percent of votes. Sorry, Jamie Foxx — 2.57 percent just wasn’t enough to keep you in the race.//static.polldaddy.com/p/6775492.js Take Our Poll
Remember, gang: This poll is about who was the best SNL host, according to whatever subjective criteria one uses to determine this sort of thing. Below, I’ve embedded one representative clip for each of the five hosts currently in the race. After the vote, the host with the least support will be eliminated, and the other four will advance to compete against Adam Levine on Jan. 26. Ultimately, we’ll eliminate the less memorable hosts and crown a new Mr. or Ms. Saturday Night. Watch the clips, refresh your memories, and vote below.
