Peter Murphy, leader of the underground British goth-rock icons Bauhaus, was allegedly involved in a car accident in Los Angeles and is being held by authorities on suspicion of causing injuries while driving under the influence, felony hit-and-run, and possessing methamphetamine, the LA Times reports.
Murphy reportedly drove his Subaru Forester into a Mercedes around midday Saturday before driving away and entering the highway, according to eyewitness accounts. Police later caught up with Murphy and reported that he seemed to be “very confused,” but Murphy denies having had alcohol and blamed his condition on being jetlagged from a recent flight. (He currently lives in Turkey.)
Still, police found a small plastic bag of what they think may be meth upon searching Murphy’s car, and the singer is being held on $500,000 bail.
