UPDATE: The full recap is live!

SPOILER AHEAD! Keep reading only if you want to know who was eliminated from American Idol‘s Top 9 results show tonight.

This just in: a white guy will NOT win American Idol this year. It’s the producers’ dream come true — Nigel, you really did it! Paul Jolley was sent packing after delivering an unconvincing rendition of “Eleanor Rigby” on Wednesday night’s performance show and then another unconvincing rendition of “Alone,” which did not earn him the Judge’s Save. (For reference, this is how you sing “Eleanor Rigby” and this is how you sing “Alone” on Idol.) The equally blah Devin Velez joined him in the Bottom 3, as did Amber Holcomb, whose placement may have been unjust, but was unsurprising given her obscure song choice the night before.

Besides the results, we got performances from Casey Abrams (in friendly chops!), a new single from Jessica Sanchez, and a whole lot of wise words from Jimmy Iovine, who pulled no punches while articulately dissecting each contestant. Not to get all Randy Jackson on you, but for me (for you), Jimmy’s critique was the MOMENT of the season. Jimmy is in it to win it, folks!

Stay tuned for the full recap, which will post overnight. In the meantime, make your thoughts known in the comments!
