This year’s SXSW festival is now in our rearview, but last year’s Grand Jury narrative prize winner is just hitting theaters. Gimme the Loot (see this week’s Must List) follows two young Bronx graffiti artists who plan to tag the giant apple at the Mets’ Citi Field. ”The kids in Dazed and Confused or Superbad get to be just kids and steal the keg and go on an adventure, but when it’s set in an urban world, it’s usually much bleaker and more of a social alarmist story,” says director Adam Leon, who cut his teeth as a production assistant for Woody Allen on 2002’s Hollywood Ending. ”I felt that there was another story to tell.” Did he target the apple because he’s a Mets fan? ”Nah, I’m more of a Yankees guy.”
