Usher visited Jimmy Fallon last night to promote the new season of The Voice, and it initially seemed as if his electric presence short-circuited the entire stage. ”This is very interesting,” Fallon said, as the lights went pitch black just as he was introducing Usher. ”No, this is good, you guys. This is the way he wants it to be lit.”
Before he finished that sentence the lights came back on.
What followed was a delightful, if at times a little confusing interview. Usher teased that people don’t always get his humor – but that he was like ”black Larry David”– after a joke about his rings fell flat. ”I don’t know what to believe anymore,” Fallon said. ”It’s a tricky interview for me.”
With all these tricks for Fallon, it almost seems like NBC is putting him through a rigorous vetting process for something.
