It’s been a busy week, Jukeboxers! A few characters joined the dearly departed (we’ll miss you Derwin, Merle and Walt Miller!) while others just got their badass on (we’re lookin’ at you, Elena and Snow). ARROW (The CW)
The song: Rihanna feat. Mikky Ekko, “Stay”
The episode: “Salvation” (118)
The hook: Playing under an emotional meet-up between Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Laurel (Katie Cassidy) on Wednesday’s ep, RiRi’s heartsick warble expressed the former flames’ layered feelings for each other. The off-again couple has gone “round and around and around” more than a few times, but Olly’s offer to always provide a shoulder to cry on – not to mention his uncharacteristically vulnerable admission “I don’t want to be on an island anymore” – proved that this kid will “Stay” in the picture.

THE GAME (BET)
The song: Miguel, “Don’t Look Back”
The episode: “The Blueprint” (601)
The hook: Tuesday’s premiere marked a major transition for Game fans as Pooch Hall, who has played Derwin since season 1, bid farewell to the series as Derwin was traded (and Hall heads to Showtime for Ray Donovan). Played out by Miguel’s Zombies-sampling meditation on moving forward, Hall gave one last knowing look at the camera.

The song: Lucie Silvas, “Roots”
The episode: ”Cowboy Up” (203)
The hook: Though Riley Parks (Jennifer Love Hewitt) gathered the cash to free her jailbird husband Kyle (Brian Hallisay) Sunday night, she chose to remain locked in an emotional love triangle with Kyle’s brother Evan (Colin Egglesfield). With her angsty piano anthem, Brit singer-songwriter Silvas voiced Riley’s inner turmoil: “Roots that run deep, pain that you don’t see…I’m not ready to lose you yet.” The kicker? Evan fronted the bail money.
THE FOLLOWING (Fox)
The song: LCD Soundsystem, “I Can Change”
The episode: “Guilt” (110)
The hook: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times… LCD’s New Wave throwback underscored Monday’s flashback to a party where Ryan (Kevin Bacon) got his canoodle on with back-in-the-day hook-up Molly (Jennifer Ferrin). Then, during one of the freshman series’ trademark twists, the tune changed – quite literally, to The Losers’ foreboding instrumental “Azan (Call to Prayer)” – when a now-grizzled Ryan realized Molly had been a follower of nefarious nemesis Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) all along.
The song: Parliament, “Flashlight”
The episode: ”Snake in the Garden” (217)
The hook: When there’s a severed ear involve, you gotta work quick, you gotta work smart, and you can’t be afraid if things get a little funky. When the gladiators were tasked with investigating the abduction of a political power player’s daughter, Huck (Guillermo Díaz) taught Quinn (Katie Lowes) the tricks of the spy/assassin trade to the Funkadelic’s 1978 classic. In this moment between the unlikely pair , Huck was shining a light – if you will – on the ever dark underbelly of Pope & Co.

THE WALKING DEAD (AMC)*
The song: Motörhead, “Fast and Loose”
The episode: “This Sorrowful Life” (315)
The hook: Sunday’s penultimate season 3 ep didn’t end well for Merle (Michael Rooker). The knife-limbed Dixon brother went balls-out in his ultimately fatal attempt to assassinate the Governor (David Morrissey). Though we’re giving the edge to Motörhead’s rocker for its apt title and pivotal domino-setting use as Merle slugged whiskey in his car and waited for walkers, Ted Nugent’s “Turn It Up” clinched the night musically, providing an adrenaline infusion as Merle led the horde to his target.

The song: Leslie Odom Jr. and cast, “(Let’s Start) Tomorrow Tonight”
The episode: “The Bells and Whistles” (208)
The hook: Oh, Smash… we will miss you (and not always in an ironic, hate-watch-y way)! Making the show’s move to Saturday nights and its slow, Ivy-on-pills trudge to cancellation just a little more painful, Tuesday’s ep featured a group number led by the underused Sam Strickland (Odom). “Tonight” reminded us of the good ol’ days – it was fun, fresh, and even had a little soft shoe! Too bad everyone involved in the production of Bombshell is hell-bent on realizing a singular vision at the expense of involving, you know, actual quality. Sadly, it’s a familiar tune….

NEW GIRL (Fox)
The song: ”In the Ghetto,” originally by Elvis Presley
The episode: ”Chicago” (220)
The song: An only-on-New-Girl-level inappropriate rendition of the King’s 1969 track. Jess (Zooey Deschanel) founder herself donning the white jumpsuit when Nick’s (Jake Johnson) late father requested an Elvis-themed funeral. Nick – the responsible Miller – crumbled under the pressure, and Jess put on her best pompadour and circumstance up to save the day. At turns wacky and poignant, the rendition ultimately brought the whole procession of mourners to its feet – and brought Nick and Jess one step closer to fulfilling our ‘shipper dreams.

The song: The Civil Wars, “Forget Me Not”
The episode: “American Gothic” (418)
The hook: The Brooklyn-based Americana act’s 2011 charmer belied the icy confrontation it underscored last night as Elena (Nina Dobrev) met her remorseless doppelganger Katherine (also Dobrev) at a small-town café to secure the cure against vampirism. Katherine didn’t give, but she did get – a fork in the hand, specifically.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (The CW)
The song: Daniel feat. Brie Stoner, “Stay With Me”
The episode: ”Partners in Crime” (117)
The hook: The sweet “Stay With Me” closed out last night’s ep as Cat (Kristin Kreuk) and Vincent (Jay Ryan) had a jokey but delicate exchange about his tendency to run away. Vincent told Cat he fled to give Cat back her life. Cat countered, “You are my life.” Kisses punctuated the talk, the last of which was shown as Stoner pled, “Stay with me inside this emptiness, this gaping emptiness.” The relationship-strengthening conversation was also a relationship-threatening one as Evan (Max Brown), Cat’s colleague who has joined the hunt for Vincent, saw the couple’s passionate embrace and surely became more determined than ever to destroy the Beast.
MONDAY MORNINGS (TNT)
The song: Civil Twilight, “Human”
The episode: “Truth or Consequences” (108)
The hook: Alongside “Crosses” by José González, ”Human” made for a one-two punch in the final scenes of Monday’s Mornings as several characaters dealt with their own fallibility. Tyler (Jamie Bamber) and Tina (Jennifer Finnigan) accepted they were both responsible for their affair, while Delany (Ioan Gruffudd) dealt with the truth and consequences of the fatal mistake he made with a patient.
ONCE UPON A TIME (ABC)
The song: Joan Jett, “Bad Reputation”
The episode: “Selfless, Brave and True” (218)
The hook: Even Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) needs a little something extra to keep her focus on the target while shooting arrows. Enter Jett’s 1981 musical middle finger.

The song: The Rubens, “I’ll Surely Die”
The episode: ”Freaks and Geeks” (818)
The hook: Looking for makeout music? The Australian alt rockers brought it with this sultry opening tune to Wednesday night’s Supernatural. As it were, a couple of amorous residents of Conway Springs, Kan., got unlucky, but it didn’t squash the song’s Sofia-Coppola-film-ready angsty-sexy vibe.
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (CBS)
The song: “For the Longest Time,” originally by Billy Joel
The episode: ”The Time Travelers” (820)
The hook: Though HIMYM has technically been building toward its endgame since day one, the wheels really started turning on Monday’s mind bender. After some seriously disheartening contemplation of Ted’s (Josh Radnor) failings as a boyfriend, the episode concluded – as we know the series will – with a happy ending: In this case, a duet of the Piano Man’s ‘84 a cappella jam with not one, not two, but three times the Ted and Barney (Neil Patrick Harris). Bring that sweet falsetto, NPH! Bring it.
