Actress Keira Knightley, 28, wed rocker James Righton, 29, in Mazan, France, on May 4.

DEATHS

Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman, 49, died on May 2 of liver failure in Hemet, Calif.

COURTS

Singer Lauryn Hill, 37, was sentenced on May 6 in Newark to three months in prison and another three months in home confinement for deliberately failing to pay approximately $1 million in taxes (which she has since paid)…. Author Harper Lee, 87, filed a lawsuit against literary agent Samuel Pinkus in a Manhattan federal court on May 3, alleging that Pinkus tricked Lee into assigning him the copyright for To Kill a Mockingbird when she was ill in 2002. Pinkus could not be reached for comment…. Hollywood agent Jim Toth, 42, pleaded guilty to one of his April 19 DUI charges in Atlanta on May 2, while his wife, Reese Witherspoon, 37, entered a plea of no contest to her obstruction charge. Toth was ordered to perform 40 hours of community service and attend an alcohol education program.

OSCAR WATCH

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on May 4 that members will be mailed DVDs so they can vote in the Foreign Language Film, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, Animated Short Film, and Live Action Short Film categories. Previously, voters had to see nominated films in theaters.
