You don’t really see television epics on the scale of Roots or Jesus of Nazareth anymore. Luckily, one man (Will Ferrell) is trying to change that with an upcoming IFC show, The Spoils of Babylon. The comedy, debuting in early 2014, is a six-part mini-series which is an adaptation of a fake best-selling novel by Ferrell’s character of a “century-spanning saga, [which] chronicles the sexy and dramatic lives of the Morehouse family, led by Jonas Morehouse (Tim Robbins), his daughter Cynthia (Kristen Wiig) and her adopted brother Devon (Tobey Maguire) who made their fortune in the oil business.” Paging Dynasty!
A teaser trailer for the show has arrived, and it seems to take its cues from the television epics of a generation ago. Watch the trailer – as well as some commercials for a few actual mini-series from the ’70s and ’80s – below:
