Jon Cassar — who produced and directed 24 from seasons 2 to 7 on Fox — will return to executive produce and direct episodes of 24: Live Another Day.
Cassar will also helm the first two episodes of the event series featuring Kiefer Sutherland that will air on Fox in 2014.“I’m very happy to be renewing my relationship with the 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine families and am excited to call action again on the set of the resurrected 24,” Cassar said in a statement. “Considering I was not involved in season 8, this new 24 event series gives me the chance for closure on a show that is very important to me.” Cassar produced 59 episodes of 24, including the TV movie “24: Redemption.” He won two Emmys for the series.
“Jon was a profoundly integral part of 24 creatively and culturally,” said Howard Gordon, 24‘s longtime showrunner who will return for the new installments. “It doesn’t feel like it would be 24 without him, and we’re all just really thrilled to be working with him again.”
Fox plans to air 12 episodes of 24: Live Another Day as part of its new directive to air event programming in the summer as a way to tie together the regular seasons. Unlike what happened in the regular series — where each episode represented an hour in Bauer’s action-packed life — the new version will jump around during the day.
