Often referred to as the “Oscars of the fragrance industry,” the 2013 Fragrance Foundation Awards attracted a slew of stars to Alice Tully Hall in New York City last night.
Taylor Swift walked away with the Fragrance Celebrity of the Year award – bestowed upon “a celebrity who has uplifted the world of fragrance”– for her Wonderstruck, Wonderstruck Enchanted, and Taylor by Taylor Swift scents.
Though he wasn’t in attendance, Justin Bieber took home the top prize in two categories.
The Biebs’ Girlfriend perfume – a blend of sparkling pear, pink freesia, apricot nectar, and luminous musk that’s described as “an enticing fragrance made to get your heart racing as you experience that feeling of getting personal with Justin” – beat out Lady Gaga’s Fame for this year’s Favorite Women’s Fragrance. The scent also received the Consumer Choice award, as voted on by shoppers.
Comedian Dana Carvey hosted the ceremony, where Allure’s Linda Wells received the Hall of Fame Award and Alberto Morillas, Firmenich’s top chemist, accepted the inaugural Perfumer of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award. Presenters included Connie Britton, Dita Von Teese, Jessica Szohr, model Sky Ferreira, and designers Isaac Franco and Ken Kaufman of Kaufmanfranco.
The Fragrance Foundation Awards, an annual tradition since 1973, have become a celebrity-driven event, no surprise considering how many stars are cashing in by slapping their famous names on signature fragrances. See below for the complete list of winners.
