Yesterday, Britney Spears formally unveiled her new single “Ooh La La,” from the soundtrack to the movie The Smurfs 2 (which is a thing that is happening, for some reason).

She pulled back the curtain on the extra-Smurfy pop track on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show, and that also gave her the opportunity to reveal some details about her current music project.

Her exit from The X-Factor has allowed her to focus on a new album, her eighth. She told Seacrest she hoped to have the new collection out by the end of the year, and that her collaborators include Will.i.am and former Madonna lean-to William Orbit.

“I want to definitely take this album and have a new approach with it and make it a little different than anything I’ve ever done,” she told Seacrest. “Will has a lot of really interesting different tracks that I’ve listened to that are really cool that I haven’t actually written on yet, but there’s a lot of guitar and I think people will be surprised with this album. It’s gong to be really different.”

In addition to the new album and the Smurftastic single, Spears says that her impending residency in Las Vegas is still not a done deal, despite reports saying otherwise. “”It’s quite possible, yes,” she said. “Nothing’s confirmed yet.”

What do you think of “Ooh La La”? And what do you think of Spears collaborating with Will.i.am and Orbit? What do you hope this “really different” album will sound like?
