Embattled celebrity chef Paula Deen skipped out on her scheduled Today appearance this morning, citing exhaustion, according to Matt Lauer. “We planned to have an exclusive live interview with Paula Deen this morning,” said Lauer. “She is in a difficult situation over her admission and sworn testimony she used racial slurs in the past. … We arranged an interview this morning. We agreed there would be no restrictions to that interview, only that it would be an open and candid exchange. … She got on a plane and arrived in New York City last night and then we started to hear from her people that she is exhausted.”

Lauer couldn’t help but punctuate the word “exhausted” with a trace of skepticism, and Al Roker jumped in to semi-shame Deen into changing her mind: “She has been on this show so many times. She’s a friend of this show and consider her a friend and hope she would reconsider, because she needs to address this.”
