Sparta Hercules! Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson tweeted this morning from the set of his upcoming film Hercules: The Thracian Wars, posting a photo of Hercules’ helmet. This follows a set photo Johnson tweeted on Sunday, praising production designer Jean-Vincent Puzos, whose previous work includes Amour, 10,000 B.C., and Lord of War.
The Brett Ratner-directed film is an adaptation of Radical Comics’ eponymous limited series by Steve Moore and Admira Wijaya. The film follows the Greek demigod, who, after enduring through his legendary twelve labors, has become a mercenary. His life as a sword-for-hire is tested when the King of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules’ aid in defeating a tyrannical warlord. Also starring Ian McShane, Joseph Fiennes, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Rufus Sewell, and John Hurt, as the King of Thrace, the film is set in a grittier reality without the influence of the supernatural.
