Tired of previews that give away a whole movie’s worth of plot – not to mention all its best lines? If so, you’ll be tickled by the poetic trailer for Ben Stiller’s remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, a tantalizing series of images that includes nary a spoken word – at least, not until its last few seconds.
The gentle but insistent strains of “Dirty Paws” by Of Monsters and Men score the largely dialogue-free trailer, which elegantly reveals the film’s basic story: Walter Mitty (Stiller, who also directed) is a shy Life magazine photographer who spends his days alternately spinning elaborate fantasies, dreaming of romance with a co-worker played by Kristen Wiig, and being tormented by a co-worker played by Adam Scott. When Walter discovers a mysterious photograph of an arctic explorer (Sean Penn), he finds himself drawn into a real-life adventure – one that may be even more exciting than the scenarios he’s long imagined.

Stiller’s film is a remake of the 1947 movie starring Danny Kaye, which itself was based on a 1939 James Thurber short story. Kathryn Hahn, Patton Oswalt, and Shirley MacLaine also appear in it.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty hits theaters Christmas Day.
