• Funnyman Adam Sandler may be reprising his serious side, seen seldomly in movies like 2002’s Punch Drunk Love. He’s in talks to join The Cobbler, an indie drama directed by Tom McCarthy (The Station Agent, The Visitor). Details are under wraps, but THR reports the film tells the tale of a shoemaker who is able to, well, step into other people’s shoes, so to speak. [THR]

• Michael Fassbender may yet get to do a Western. The Irishman, whose plans to star in the much-maligned Jane Got a Gun went up in smoke earlier this year, is set to star in Slow West. The actor is collaborating on the movie with former Beta Band member and filmmaker John MacleanBen Mendelsohn and Kodi Smit-McPhee have also joined the cast. [Daily Mail]

• Kristin Chenoweth is in negotiations for The Boys Next Door, the latest thriller from Blumhouse, the folks responsible for nightmares due to The Purge, Insidious: Chapter 2, and more. She’s teaming up with Jennifer Lopez in the film about a single mom who is drawn to the teenage boy who lives next door. [THR]
