In a moment that drew gasps of surprise in the Emmy press room, Nurse Jackie’s Merritt Wever basically gave a non-speech when accepting her award for best supporting comedy actress.
“Oh, my God,” Wever said. “Thank you. Thanks so much. Thank you so much. I’ve got to go. Bye.”
Quipped host Neil Patrick Harris: “Merritt Wever, best speech ever.”
Backstage in front of the press, Wever thanked Showtime and co-star Edie Falco, but said she was super nervous and didn’t expect to win.
“It’s hard to do those,” she says. “I’m scared. I’m scared. It was unexpected. I don’t know how to feel yet. I mean, I have therapy next week.”
