The cooking kids rallied for their final hour: Fox’s MasterChef Junior ratings rose 15 percent for the show’s freshman season finale Friday night.
The kiddie version of the Gordon Ramsay’s latest competition series hasn’t exactly been a ratings stunner this fall, but Fox has had troubled track record in this 8 p.m. time period. MasterChef Junior improved the slot (last night was up 25 percent from last year), and typically comes in a solid second to CBS’ Undercover Boss in the hour in these overnights – second is always better than fourth. So I’m betting Junior will return. (More on the MasterChef Junior finale.)
Another reality series, ABC’s Shark Tank at 9 p.m., was also up – winning the night with 7.3 million viewers and a 2.0 rating, matching the show’s season high. Lead-ins Last Man Standing (6.2 million, 1.4) and The Neighbors (4.6 million, 1.1) were about the same as usual.
On the drama front, CBS’ lineup was steady. But NBC’s Grimm (5 million, 1.3) at 9 p.m. dipped 13 percent. That helped drag Dracula (3.4 million, 1.0) down 23 percent. Ugh! A new horror drama paired with Grimm on Friday nights was a good idea, but Dracula just hasn’t been able to hypnotize fans into returning each week.
