Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong was so moved by the Everly Brothers’ 1958 collection of traditionals, Songs Our Daddy Taught Us, that he recruited Grammy-stacked chanteuse Norah Jones to join him on a set of sparse, twangy reinterpretations. The result is self-consciously stripped down, substituting delicacy for Armstrong’s usual dynamism; still, the pair add the most passion to their project when they introduce backdoor catalysts like the blistering harmonica solo on “Roving Gambler.” B
