The eagerly awaited return of Sherlock delivered nearly record ratings in the UK.
The third season of the ultra-clever detective drama was seen by 9.2 million viewers last night on on BBC One. That’s the most-watched episode of the series to date, and would also represent a successful viewership number for a broadcast show here in the U.S.
The episode, “The Empty Hearse,” resolved season two’s cliffhanger by revealing how Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) survived his rooftop fall and reunited the brilliant detective with his partner and friend Watson (Martin Freeman). Stateside fans can see the episode when it debuts on PBS Masterpiece on Sunday, January 19 following Downton Abbey.
