My favorite horror film of 2013 which almost no one saw? That would have to be The Battery, a micro-budgeted tale of two bickering ex-baseball players trying to survive the zombie apocalypse. Written and directed by the magnificently bearded Jeremy Gardner — who also stars alongside Adam Cronheim — the result is a reminder that you don’t need a whole lot of money to make an atmospheric and character-rich undead flick. In fact, all you really you need is $6,000 and a baseball bat (okay, and a ball and a glove).

The film has gained a rep among horror films over the past year — helped greatly by the boosterism of early Battery fan and You’re Next cast member AJ Bowen — and today Scream Factory confirmed the company has secured the home entertainment rights and will be releasing the film on Blu-ray and DVD later this year.

In the meantime, you can check out a trailer for The Battery below.
