Olympics push 'American Idol' ratings to new low

You can bet NBC’s rivals are ready for the Olympics to be over.

Thursday night found Fox’s American Idol getting crushed in the ratings while other networks ran for cover by airing mostly repeats.

The Sochi Winter Olympics had 19.9 million viewers and a 4.9 rating, down 12 percent from the same night in 2010 in Vancouver among total viewers, but up from 2006 in Torino. While Idol sank to a series low, with 9.2 million viewers and a 2.4 rating. Idol is arguably particularly vulnerable to the big international drama of the Olympics since it’s also a judged performance competition. Full chart:
