Step Brothers and Talladega Nights co-stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are in talks to re-team for Sony’s Border Guards. The comedic duo would play a pair of friends who decide to become boarder guards and end up stranded in Mexico with no way to get back. Their longtime collaborator Adam McKay may direct, and The Thick of It‘s Jesse Armstrong is writing the script. [Deadline]

• Sharon Stone has boarded the action comedy American Ultra in a role originally intended for Uma Thurman. The Lionsgate pic stars Jesse Eisenberg as a stoner who becomes the target of a government operation. Kristen Stewart plays his girlfriend.

• Thomas Haden Church and Jay Hernandez have joined MGM’s Max, a drama about a trauma-stricken military dog who goes to live with his dead handler’s grieving family. Hellion‘s Josh Wiggins stars as the young boy who bonds with the erratic dog in the Boaz Yakin pic. [THR]
