Broadway producer Matthew Lombardo has filed a lawsuit against Valerie Harper for failing to disclose her illness before signing on to star in his play, according to TIME.
In 2009, Harper was diagnosed with lung cancer, which later spread to her brain. The former Mary Tyler Moore Show star ended up leaving Lombardo’s play, Looped, in 2013 because of a terminal brain cancer diagnosis.
Harper demanded pay for the remainder of her Looped contract because she had left for health reasons. Lombardo, however, is filing his $2 million lawsuit as a counter to that, claiming Harper didn’t disclose her illness until after she was already set to star in the play and therefore caused him to lose money.
