M.I.A. drops Beyonce-saluting track 'Baddygirl 2' -- and gripes that she can't reach

Beyoncé took a rare swerve into the bad-press lane this week with the video of the alleged dust-up between her sister and her husband.  M.I.A., on the other hand, is no stranger to negative publicity, so perhaps in the spirit of solidarity, M.I.A. went ahead and recorded a tribute to Bey with a “***Flawless” remix called “Baddygirl 2.”

The track, published on M.I.A.’s official SoundCloud page last night, also borrows bits from Beyoncé tracks “Diva” and “Run The World (Girls),” and features several direct references to Beyoncé herself. Apparently, M.I.A. has been working on this track for a while, as she tweeted that she had been attempting to officially clear the samples with the Knowles camp.

But the streets couldn’t wait, so hear her celebration of both beat science and girl power (though M.I.A. does go out of her way to declare men and women equal during one of her verses) here:

M.I.A. is currently on tour supporting her latest album Matangi (she was just on Late Night With Seth Meyers), while Beyoncé is presumably preparing for her co-headlining tour with husband Jay Z that will be invading stadia across the country all summer—all while being super melancholy on Instagram.
