Joe Francis arrested, released for alleged 'Girls Gone Wild' fight

Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Francis was arrested on misdemeanor assault charges and spent Friday night in jail. He was released early Saturday morning on $20,000 bail, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department website.

The 41-year-old was taken into custody for an altercation that reportedly took place at the Girls Gone Wild offices. Police are investigating whether Francis was in violation of a restraining order when he entered the building.

Francis has been involved in a number of legal battles, including a case in which three women accused him of assault and false imprisonment, and a slander charge brought against him by casino mogul Steve Wynn. In that ruling, a court ordered Francis to pay Wynn millions for defamation. Francis’ company, GGW Brands, subsequently filed for bankruptcy in February 2013.
