Can there possibly be enough versions of Angry Birds? Definitely not, answers Rovio, the company behind the game. On Monday, they announced Angry Birds Transformers.
“We’re really excited to combine the iconic Transformers universe with the quirky world of Angry Birds,” said Rovio Chief Marketing Officer Blanca Juti.”This mash-up is going to appeal to those who grew up with the brand in the 80s, as well as fans of the brand today.” This is the thirteenth game in the franchise, which also includes books, toys, drinks, and a movie in production. The Angry Birds Transformers line will also include “consumer licensed goods and a product line from Hasbro,” according to the press release. So if you’re a big fan of Angry Birds and Transformers, there will be plenty to buy.
Angry Birds Transformers, which, again, is a real thing, is the third cross-franchise Angry Birds game. In 2012, Rovio released Angry Birds Star Wars. A year later, they followed it up, per Star Wars tradition, with a sequel. This Transformers variant ties in nicely with the upcoming movie Transformers: Age of Extinction, due in a couple of weeks. In September, Rovio will introduce something called “TELEPODS technology,” which lets players ”teleport their favorite Angry Birds Transformers characters into the game and gain unique powers.” Okay.
