Pearl Jam brought a little Frozen to Italy this weekend, transitioning to the Disney film’s smash hit “Let it Go” midway through a performance of “Daughter” during a performance at Milan’s San Siro stadium. The ballad, which nabbed an Oscar earlier this year, has been mixed into everything from a tribal cover to a performance with classroom instruments. But Pearl Jam’s grungy take is something new.
“Daughter,” which comes from the band’s 1993 album Vs., centers on a young girl stuck in an abusive relationship. The genres behind “Daughter” and “Let it Go” may differ, but their lyrics pair surprisingly well together, especially considering that the 2014 Disney film also features a girl at odds with her family and identity.
