Season 5 of Vampire Diaries ended with Ian Somerhalder’s Damon and Kat Graham’s Bonnie giving into the white light of oblivion. Generally speaking, “giving into the white light of oblivion” might imply that characters will not be returning anytime soon. The Vampire Diaries panel at Comic-Con made light of the characters’ apparent exit, with a video where the actors ponder whether they’ve been written off or granted a spinoff.
However, both Somerhalder and Graham were onstage, along with fellow cast members Nina Dobrev, Matt Davis, and Paul Wesley and Diaries showrunner Julie Plec. The team revealed that season 6 picks up four months after the finale, with the characters all getting over the events of season 5 in different ways.
She wouldn’t explain where the characters are exactly, though it’s clear they will be together–”being together” in Vampire Diaries land naturally implying “being together.” Ian Somerhalder teased possible ‘shipper names: “I definitely think Bamon’s better than Donnie.” Graham simply stated, “I would definitely say you’ll see more interaction between them.” More interaction, hubba hubba!
More quick hits from the Vampire Diaries panel:
–With Damon apparently out of the picture, would Stefan and Elena rekindle? Probably not, says Plec. ”Right now the love between Damon and Elena is so strong,” explained Plec, “And the friendship between Stefan and Elena has grown strong.”
–The resurrected Alaric is now a teacher at a local college.
–When asked if he was Team Damon or Team Stefan, Ian Somerhalder helpfully deconstructed the entire Vampire Diaries saga: “Does no one realize that this woman should not be with either of these guys?”
