Will Reese Witherspoon have an Australian accent, or will Nicole Kidman put on an American one?
EW has confirmed that Witherspoon and Kidman’s production companies (Pacific Standard and Blossom Films, respectively) have teamed up to option the screen rights to Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. Deadline first reported the story.
The novel, released July 29, follows a group of Australian mothers whose kids all go to the same kindergarten. A mishap with a broken heel leads the “mums” through series of events that eventually ends in murder.
Kidman and Witherspoon have plans to star in the project, so it’s already anybody’s guess on who each of them will play. Witherspoon seems like a natural choice to appear as the extroverted Madeline, but maybe she wants to keep playing against type.
If Big Little Lies materializes for Kidman and Witherspoon, the film will mark their first feature together.
