Who among us saw the 2008 Brendan Fraser-led remake Journey to the Center of the Earth and thought, “This undoubtedly marks the august beginnings of a four-part motion picture franchise”? Because they would be right.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, New Line Cinemas and Walden Media have announced that both a third and fourth Journey film have entered development. While no one’s talking about plot, Journey 2 star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is attached to return, with scripts from Chad and Carey Hayes, who previously wrote The Conjuring. Brad Peyton, who also worked with Johnson on Journey 2 and the upcoming thriller San Andreas, will return to direct, as will producer Beau Flynn. Actor Josh Hutcherson is expected to return as well, although he is not officially attached.
