Another week in beautiful Mexico! I can’t even tell you how amazing it was to spend almost a month there. And every day was full of excitement. This week was a pretty quiet week in paradise with no balcony jumpers or hospital visits… wait, that’s not true. Chris Bukowski kept the streak alive and judging by the previews for next week’s two-night special event the hospital visits aren’t over yet. But let’s not jump ahead, as we have so much to discuss from this week.
We began this week by catching the aftermath of last week’s rose ceremony where Elise made the odd decision to offer Dylan a rose despite the fact that he’d repeatedly told her “do not offer me a rose, if you do I will turn it down.” We did get Elise’s explanation: “He told me three times he wouldn’t accept the rose—I needed him to confirm that.” Well, I’ll let you ponder that little gem, but the fact is Elise and Chris seemed pretty happy after the ceremony and were ready to start a fresh new love affair. Hey, it just might be crazy enough to work. Soon after the rose ceremony, we got our first new arrival of the week in Danielle from Juan Pablo’s season. There’s apparently a new house rule that stipulates that there are no rules as for who you can and can’t ask on a date. Much to Michelle Money’s chagrin, Danielle took this to heart and asked out Marquel, who gleefully accepted and off they went to the state of Campeche for their date. It seemed to go pretty well between the two of them but the “Cookie Monster” wasn’t done with dates yet this week.
Elise also got a date card this week and there was only one guy (now) that she was ready to extend it to and that’s Chris Bukowski. Chris was extremely excited to accept only he took an odd step getting out of the ocean and messed up his knee pretty badly. I’m no doctor (although I do play one on TV), but after seeing it, I can tell you it didn’t look right. Despite the bad knee, Chris decided to man up and go on the date with Elise to Campeche, which is really one of the most beautiful places in all of Mexico. But he honestly felt like crap the entire time, and it was a pretty tough for him to enjoy. It was so bad in fact the next morning Elise and Chris went to the hospital to get it checked out. They confirmed what he already knew: that it was a torn ligament. Chris came back to the villa determined to gut it out and stay in paradise, but as you know by now that didn’t happen and it changed everything this week.
With Marquel on one of his many dates this week, Michelle Money decided she was done with him and ready to move back to concentrating on Robert. Only problem here is that Sarah had kind of attached herself to Robert, and they were doing pretty good together. And yet another love triangle was created in paradise. It was tough to hear Sarah talk so openly about her insecurities and vulnerabilities. Sarah is a great woman, and I’ve enjoyed getting to know her over the last couple years. I appreciate and respect how open and honest she is with us all the time. Michelle Money was also open and honest in telling Sarah she had eyes on Robert and that her and Clare were planning a double date of sorts that night at the villa. Sarah was gracious about it, but clearly it hurt and hit a sensitive nerve, one where she feels she isn’t good enough or doesn’t deserve the fairy-tale ending.
Before everybody could sort out the love triangles, broken knees, and hearts, a silhouette of a gorgeous woman emerged from the dark on the beach. It turned out to be another new arrival: Jackie. Jackie also went by this new house rule and wouldn’t you know it, she too asked Marquel out on a date. Guess who’s enjoying the limelight coming off Andi’s season? I’m incredibly interested to get your perspective on Marquel and how he handled all of this with Michelle, Danielle, and now Jackie. Is he being a player or is he being wise in keeping his options open to every possibility? If it weren’t Marquel—say it was someone like Chris Bukowski—would you have the same opinion? No matter anyone’s opinion, he seemed to really enjoy his time with Jackie. He enjoyed it so much he gave a nervous awkward speech about not kissing on the first date right before he kissed on the first date. One of the greatest things to hear on a date is “I never do this,” which translates to “I pretty much always do this but I’m conflicted about it and I’d really like you to believe I don’t.”
AshLee and Graham have one of the more intriguing relationships. I feel this way not only because it’s been interesting to follow since that first odd forceful start they got off to but also because I know these two very well. I’ve known Graham for over six years now and I can easily see what he’s really saying and feeling. AshLee got a date card and obviously took Graham on her date. It was good for them to get out of the house and be by themselves so they could discuss some much needed issues. I said in week one when relationships start on a controversial or rocky note it’s really hard to come back from that. AshLee is clearly all in, but Graham is a slow mover. Now this can work if AshLee picks up on these signals and slows her roll, but right now that’s not happening and Graham is clearly feeling a little suffocated and pressured. That is not a good position to put anyone in.
We entered this week’s rose ceremony with a few answers but plenty of questions. There are obvious relationships and roses being handed out but Danielle, Sarah, Michelle, and Jackie were on the chopping block. The first question answered was where would Marquel’s heart and rose lead him and that answer was Jackie. They had a great first date and this could be the beginning of something special. The next puzzle solved was Robert. He chose Sarah over Michelle, leaving Money and Danielle the odd women out. That is until Chris Bukowski turned everything upside down by letting everybody know he was pulling himself out of paradise to go home to tend to his knee, but that he wanted Elise to come with him. She gladly accepted, which left a rose for one more woman this week. In an incredibly touching moment Chris generously gave that rose to Michelle. It really was a sweet moment that meant the world to Michelle. You know sometimes in life it just takes one little push to get you over the hill and from there it can be a beautiful ride. We’ll see if this is just the push Money needed. Unfortunately there was not another rose for Danielle, and as quickly as she arrived, she was heading home. Danielle came in, took a swing at Marquel, but she was trumped by the arrival of Jackie.
It’s stunning to me how fast things can turn on a dime here in paradise. Next week you’ll see even more twists and turns, tears and drama as we present a special two-night Bachelor in Paradise event Monday and Tuesday nights. It’s a summer two-night extravaganza that you don’t want to miss.
