Two weeks from today, Sons of Anarchy’s final ride begins. We’ve already seen a shot of Charlie Hunnam and Marilyn Manson in the Sept. 9 season premiere; now FX has released more images. Above, a not-at-all awkward shot of Jax (Hunnam) with Gemma (Katey Sagal), the mother he doesn’t know killed his wife, and Wendy (Drea de Matteo), his ex who checks herself out of rehab early and wants to help out with the boys.
Of course, that encounter is still preferable to the one Jax has at the start of the season premiere when he’s being held in jail. Tape on the hands is never a good sign.
A more welcome sight is Jax back on the street with his brothers.
And obviously Nero (Jimmy Smits), who’s still trying to keep those streets from turning red, is rocking another badass cardigan.
New black-and-white gallery shots of the cast promoting the final season are plenty menacing, but also reverent in a way. We’ve run Hunnam’s sneaky, stone-cold Jax before, but it’s worth viewing again.
How do we interpret the other portraits?
Theo Rossi’s Juice looks like a loose cannon (and a smoking gun).
Tommy Flanagan’s Chibs seems concerned—and sad.
As does Mark Boone Junior’s Bobby.
Things are looking up for Kim Coates’ Tig, starting with a particularly good hair day.
Niko Nicotera’s Rat Boy is tougher/colder than we may think (he doesn’t need to warm his hands, thanks).
David Labrava’s Happy is up for action, always. And he could probably kill you with that toothpick, too.
Sagal’s Gemma is a woman haunted by ghosts, and a deer caught in the headlights.
De Matteo’s cautious Wendy should be watching her own back.
Dayton Callie’s Unser will do more than hang out at the Airstream (the shirt is too nice).
Smits’ Nero will get mean when he has to. (To quote Patrick Swayze’s Dalton in Road House, “I want you to be nice, until it’s time to not be nice.”)
