Bill Hader discusses the origins of Stefon on 'Seth Meyers'

There was a miniature SNL reunion last Monday night when Bill Hader stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers to reminisce about the good times he had playing the delirious and beloved character, Stefon.

Hader explains that Stefon’s debut “barely worked as a sketch with Ben Affleck,” since it took so long for Stefon to get warmed up to his deranged high point, which led to the transition for Stefon to become a New York correspondent for Weekend Update. Hader also reveals that he put his hands in front of his face because of frequent breaks of character due to Meyers’ calm demeanor towards Stefon’s maniacal antics. As a nod to the relationship between Stefon and Meyers (who got “married” on the show), Meyers shows off a Stefon matryoshka doll that sits on his desk.

Bonus: Hader reveals that he’s filming a Judd Apatow-directed romantic comedy with Amy Schumer, and his best friend is played by LeBron James. For real.
