Men in Shorts is coming to ABC.

The network closed a deal for the single-camera comedy inspired by professional soccer player Robbie Rogers, EW has confirmed. Rogers is the first openly gay man to play in a major North American professional sports league

Jordon Nardino and showrunner Claudia Lonow are set to write the comedy, which follows a young pro soccer player who takes one small step out of the closet and one giant leap into the spotlight. The show will include family and workplace comedy.

Craig Zadan, Neil Meron, Lonow, and Nardino will executive produce. Rogers is attached as a producer. Storyline VP Mark Nicholson developed the project, and will be a consulting producer.

Storyline Entertainment, along with Universal Television, optioned Rogers’ story rights for a comedy series in July. The project is part of Storyline’s deal at UTV.
