There may be hope for Coulson yet!

Just two weeks after Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) agreed to kill Coulson (Clark Gregg) should he start to show deterioration from the blue alien serum, the tag of Tuesday’s episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. featured another person (Cougar Town’s Brian Van Holt) possibly suffering the same side effects, which include scribbling the alien equation all over everything—in this case the mystery man was getting more of it tattooed onto his already tatted up body.

“Brian Van Holt always comes up when we discuss actors we’d love to have on the show,” executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen tell EW via email. “Clearly we’re fans. We thought he’d be perfect for this role, and you’ll learn more about the Mystery Man Covered in Tattoos soon enough…”

While that nickname is quite a mouthful, the producers are shy to say whether this is the person who also has been scribbling the equation or if there are several others out there in the world. “At the very least, we can say the he has an extremely high pain threshold,” the bosses write, teasing that locating this man will be at the top of Coulson’s to-do list. “If this Mystery Man has any answers to the puzzle Coulson has been trying to solve, you can bet that he will try to find him. Let’s just hope S.H.I.E.L.D. gets to him first.”

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
