Not every weekend can be a winner at the box office, and not long ago I found myself on EW’s SiriusXM radio channel with hosts Julia Cunningham and Mario Correa joking about the kind of movie we wished were coming out that weekend. By the end of the hour, we’d figured out that it would star Diane Keaton, Stockard Channing, and Blythe Danner as three unlucky-in-love sisters living in what looks like a Garnet Hill catalog, fighting over the new widower in town, played by Liam Neeson. We were thrilled by the tons of tweets we received during the next few weeks that filled in some gaps — Who would do the score? Ally McBeal singer Vonda Shepard! Who would direct? Nancy Meyers, natch — until we had a very clear picture of what has become our new favorite faux flick, Chunky Knits.
We had so much fun faking a movie with you — or at least its poster! — that we want to fake more. So now the challenge is on. Send us your most ridiculous movie premise (in the form of a one-page treatment, complete with cast and working title — the more absurd, the better!) to firstname.lastname@example.org. If yours is selected, we’ll create a movie poster befitting your story and run it in the pages of the magazine.
