Sometimes pop music presents weird little continuities. Today it’s 2013’s radio “Royal” Lorde covering 2009’s radio Kings (of Leon). You know, the cover we’ve all been waiting for.

FM radio played “Use Somebody”  into oblivion, but maybe it only needed a change of scenery. This recording, which allegedly features a 12-year-old Lorde singing the song on New Zealand radio, is actually pretty great. There’s also some shared thematic DNA between the two songs: If you could “use somebody,” doesn’t that mean you want someone on your “team”?

Check out the recording below, and be thankful preteen Lorde didn’t cover “Sex On Fire” instead.
