Like Sweet Zombie Jesus, Fry & Co. will rise from the dead for one more animated adventure on The Simpsons.
The Planet Express crew from the 31st century is scheduled to touch down in present-day Springfield in the Fox comedy’s Nov. 9 episode, titled “Simpsorama.” The main voice cast from beloved-and-cancelled-once-again Futurama—John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Phil LaMarr, Lauren Tom, Maurice LaMarche, and Tress MacNeille (who is part of the Simpsons voice cast as well)—reprised their roles for this crossover creation, in which rage-robot Bender travels back in time to eliminate Bart before he does something snotty that leads to a mass catastrophe.
How did this fusion of Matt Groening’s two shows come about? “They were going off the air, so I thought people would really love it if we had one more chance to see those characters,” Simpsons exec producer Al Jean told EW this summer. “We’re always looking for things that are compatible with us, and I thought, ‘Well, what’s more compatible?’ We do a joke, actually, about how similar Bender and Homer look. Like, they just erased Homer’s hair.”
We’re not math-y or science-y enough to invent a time machine that will allow you to travel ahead to Sunday at 8 p.m. and enjoy “Simpsorama” now, but we can at least provide you with an exclusive peek at a scene from the episode, in which Homer and Bender take Bart for a spin.
This, of course, is the second crossover episode of the fall that involves The Simpsons: The Family Guy season premiere sent the Griffins to Springfield.
UPDATE: It is also your pleasure to view the couch gag from “Simpsorama,” in which Homer cozies up with Hedonismbot.
