Randy Jackson is leaving American Idol – for real this time.

Fox and Idol producers released this statement: “Randy has been such an integral part of American Idol since day one, both as a judge and as a mentor. He’s provided great advice and support, shaping the success of so many Idols we have discovered over the years. We wish him all the best in his next chapter. Randy will always be part of our Idol family and we hope he’ll visit from time to time.”

Jackson has been with the singing competition series since it launched in 2002. The music producer announced he was leaving the show last year,  but then ended up staying with the series as a mentor. The upcoming 14th season have last year’s judges returning – Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. Host Ryan Seacrest is now the only on-camera talent remaining from the show’s first season.
