In 2012, long before the days of 1989 and cat Olivia Benson, it seemed Taylor Swift was going to play Joni Mitchell in a film based on the book Girls Like Us. Not so anymore, says Mitchell herself.

Mitchell told The Sunday Times that she put a stop to the film. “I squelched that!” she said. “I said to the producer, ‘All you’ve got is a girl with high cheekbones. It’s just a lot of gossip, you don’t have the great scenes.’ There’s a lot of nonsense about me in books: assumptions, assumptions, assumptions.” Sheila Weller’s biography also looks at the lives of Carly Simon and Carole King. EW has reached out to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura of Di Bonaventura Pictures for comment on the status of the project.

As someone who loves both Taylor Swift and Joni Mitchell for different reasons aside from the fact that I have feelings, even I admit this was probably not meant to be. Plus, maybe Swift really just wanted to play Carly Simon anyway.
