Fox to pull 'Red Band Society'

Red Band Society

Red Band Society may be on its death bed.

The network will halt production on the series after it wraps its initial 13-episode order, but Red Band has not yet been officially canceled. The show will still air this Wednesday night and its fall finale on Dec. 3, but the final three episodes have not been scheduled. There is still a possibility the series could return for a second season.

Red Band Society, which follows a group of teens dealing with various medical maladies while living in a pediatric hospital ward, got off to an anemic start in the ratings, debuting to 4 million viewers and a 1.3 in the 18-49 demographic. Its latest outing drew 2.9 million and 0.9 in the demo.

Fox’s freshman class has been struggling: Utopia was canceled, Mulaney’s order was reduced from 16 to 13 episodes and, though a limited series, Gracepoint’s ratings have left much to be desired. Gotham is the only new show on the network to get a full season.
